The first CGIAR national consultation was held at a two-day meeting in Abuja, Nigeria, 16–17 November. The national consultations are an integral part of the third Global Conference on Agricultural Research for Development, a two-year consultation process focusing on stakeholder and partner priorities at the national and regional level designed to help shape the strategy and future direction of international agriculture research and innovation.
The Nigeria National Consultation is the first in a series taking place through 2015 and 2016 in a set of countries identified through agreed criteria by CGIAR Centers and Research Programs (CRPs), with input from other stakeholder groups. The meeting brought together all CGIAR centers working in Nigeria and a wide range of stakeholders in the agriculture sector to examine the agricultural strategy of Nigeria, the challenges facing the sector, the national priorities, donors and funders’ priorities, and CGIAR activities in the country. They also discussed principles and mechanisms that would help guide the development of a plan for the CGIAR Site Integration process in Nigeria.
