The World Bank seeks to recruit an Economist and a Research Analyst (for two separate Short-Term Consultant (STC) positions) to play a central role in supporting the World Bank’s policy advice to the Government of Indonesia (GOI) on its decentralization reform agenda. With the enactment of a new law on intergovernmental finance (UU HKPD) in January 2022, the GOI has embarked on a historical reform of its intergovermental finance system. The Economist’s and Research Analyst’s main tasks will comprise designing and conducting demanding quantitative analysis to inform the GOI’s reform agenda. The successful candidates will work as part of a large and dynamic World Bank team, led by the Governance Global Practice. PhD and Master’s graduates are encouraged to apply for the Economist position. For the Research Analyst, the minimum prerequisite is a Bachelor’s degree in the social sciences with a strong background in econometrics.
Skills Required:
For the Economist position:
- Academic specialization: At least a Master’s or PhD degree in economics, public policy or a related field with excellent quantitative research skills;
- Experience: Prior experience with research or policy advice on intergovernmental fiscal relations or public finance is a plus;
- The candidate must have demonstrated technical expertise in econometric analysis (including proficiency in STATA and / or R), for 2 years;
- Writing skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills in English are critical;
- Language skills: Fluency in Bahasa Indonesia is an advantage;
- Interpersonal skills: Demonstrated ability to work effectively and sensitively in teams and with government counterparts. A high degree of self-management and autonomy is required.
For the Research Analyst position:
- Academic specialization: At least a Bachelor’s degree in economics, public policy or a related field with strong quantitative research skills;
- Experience: Two years of professional experience with policy analysis in a related field are an advantage;
- Experience: The candidate must have demonstrated technical expertise in econometric analysis (including proficiency in STATA and / or R);
- Writing skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills in English are critical;
- Language skills: Fluency in Bahasa Indonesia is a strong advantage;
- Interpersonal skills: Demonstrated ability to work effectively and sensitively in teams and with government counterparts. A high degree of self-management and autonomy is required.
