APAARI - Agriculture continues to be the engine of inclusive and accelerated economic growth and livelihood security in the developing Asia-Pacific comprising over 55 and 70 percent of world¿s total and agricultural population, respectively. Despite the land availability being one-fifth of that in the rest of the world, the region is today¿s and tomorrow¿s largest supplier of the global food and agricultural products. The Green Revolution ushered in the region in the 1960s was an unprecedented success in multiplying food and agricultural production and productivity and in more than halving the percentages of hungry and poor by the year 1995.
