I have Ph.D. in Plant Physiology. After teaching in Universities for about 20 years, have joined CGIAR system. I am working with ICARDA in Afghanistan for the last 8 years, out of which more than 5 years as Head of ICARDA program in Afghanistan. Program is comparatively large, and includes activity covering almost all aspects of dryland agriculture. Working with more than 1000 Afghan women is among some of the successful interventions. ICARDA works on crop improvement, water related issues, small ruminants, alternative livelihoods, value addition and marketing of medicinal plants, seed sector, and agriculture policy issues. During my 8 years working in Afghanistan, I have developed strong understanding of successful implementation of R4D programs in conflict and post-conflict conditions.
