Established in 1911, Zhejiang Academy of Agricultural Sciences is a comprehensive non-profit agricultural research institution. It now has a faculty of 1073, 801 being scientific personnel, 260 holding senior professional ranks, 159 holding Ph D Degree. Its research is mainly directed towards basic agricultural research and applications, high-tech agricultural innovation and service mechanism, covering almost all aspects of agricultural sciences except tea and fishery, with an aim to provide service and assistance for rural development of Zhejiang province.     ZAAS has a total of 15 institutes:         --Institute of Crops and Utilization of Radiation         --Institute of Plant Protection and Microbiology         --Institute of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Science         --Institute of Environmental Resources, Soils and Fertilizers         --Institute of Horticulture         --Institute of Vegetables         --Institute of Sericulture         --Institute of Rural Development and Information         --Institute of Food Processing         --Institute of Virology and Biotechnology         --Institute of Quality Standards for Agricultural Products         --Institute of Digital Agriculture         --Institute of Flowers         --Institute of Maize         --Institute of Sub-tropical Crops         --Institute of Citriculture     Within ZAAS there are several research laboratories at the national and provincial level: lab of virology and biotechnology, lab of plant virology, lab of agro-products quality and safety, protected horticulture technology station, livestock and poultry genetic breeding station, radiation breeding lab, national centers for rice, barley and soybean improvement, national monitoring station for soil fertility and fertilizer efficiency, provincial station for plant metabolic genetic engineering, and field experimental station for paddy soil environment. ZAAS has established joint research centers with institutions in the UK, America, Russia and Chinese Academy of Science. There are 2 companies affiliated with ZAAS: Zhejiang Nongke Group and Zhejiang Huanyu Sci-Tech Development Company.     The library houses over 140,000 books; two journals (Journal of Zhejiang Agricultural Sciences and Acta Agriculturae Zhejiangensis) are compiled and published in ZAAS.
