On the occasion of the International Earth Day 2016, the CGIAR Research Program on Dryland Systems wishes to raise awareness of the importance of trees in drylands. Globally, about 1.6 billion people, including more than 2,000 indigenous cultures- depend on trees and forests for food, would fuel, livestock feed, shelter and income.
To commemorate this day, the CGIAR Research Program on Dryland Systems is launching Trees in Drylands, an Exposure story to highlight the manifold benefits and services provided by trees to people in the rural drylands of the developing world.
CRP DS also brings you the following publications and stories:
Treesilience: An Assessment of the Resilience Provided by Trees in the Drylands of Eastern Africa.
Guest Blog from colleagues at ICRAF about their research work in tree-based systems in Africa
