APAARI - Prioritizing the agricultural research agenda for Asia Pacific: Refocusing investments to benefit the poor
APAARI - Agriculture continues to be the engine of inclusive and accelerated economic growth and livelihood security in the developing Asia-Pacific comprising over 55 and 70 percent of world¿s total and agricultural population, respectively. Despite the land availability being one-fifth of that in the rest of the world, the region is today¿s and tomorrow¿s largest supplier of the global food and agricultural products.
APAARI - Through a series of electronic and face-to-face regional and global consultations, the Global Forum on Agricultural Research (GFAR) in collaboration with the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR) aims to reshape the global agricultural research agenda for development and reorient it to the needs of the poor through both the generation of new and relevant knowledge and the empowerment of rural communities to make use of all that is known. The consultation results will feed into the Global Conference on Agricultural Research for Development (GCARD), 2010.
FORAGRO - América Latina y el Caribe ¿ ALC ¿, integrada por más de 30 países y con una población cercana a los 600 millones de personas (menos del 10% de la población mundial), cuenta con el 23% de tierras agrícolas, el 31% de los recursos hídricos, el 23% de los bosques y el 46% de la selva tropical en el mundo y es un actor de importancia creciente en el abastecimiento global de alimentos.
FORAGRO - Latin America and the Caribbean ¿ LAC - conformed by more than 30 countries and with a population close to 600 million people (less than 10% of the world population) has 23% of the world¿s arable lands, 31% of its hydric resources, 23% of its forests and 46% of its tropical forests. Therefore, it is an actor of increasing importance in the global food supply.
This document has been contributed by a group of social scientists and ARD stakeholders,
committed to facilitate the GCARD consultation so that it is inclusive of the opinion of all ARD
Stakeholders in contributing to increasing net incomes, purchasing power, livelihoods and
sustainability of the poor smallholder farmers and producers and their communities in the
developing countries.
CACAARI...the requirements of the TORs for F2F consultation meeting as per the guidelines of the GCARD process were fulfilled. The meeting also served a very useful purpose in identifying the major groups of producers, themes and important researchable issues. Now, the next step would be to identify appropriate development pathways to achieve the desired results.
