The GFAR Bibliographic database has been developed on a separate module of EIMS (Electronic Information Management System) of FAO and it is a cooperative product of the GFAR Secretariat in collaboration with the Library and Documentation Systems Division of FAO, coordinated by both institutions.
The documentation was provided by the GFAR Secretariat to an information specialist who is responsible for the activities of analyzing the literature produced by GFAR Secretariat, creating metadata records compliant with the FAO semantic standards and assigning categories according to GFAR Classification.
As the collection and selection of documents are separated tasks, guidelines for the selection of documents are needed to create consistency in the enhancement and development of the collection.
Common selection criteria are essential to guarantee the integrity and the compatibility of the database records, avoiding consequently, both the inclusion of irrelevant documents and the exclusion of relevant ones.
