SciELO is a special program of the São Paulo State Research Foundation (FAPESP), started in 1998, to publish online national and thematic collections of open access, quality scientific journals from Latin American, Caribbean, Portugal, Spain and South Africa. The program is run and funded through research projects executed through the Foundation of the Federal University of São Paulo (Fap-UNIFESP). SciELO is supported by FAPESP in partnership with the Latin American and Caribbean Center on Health Sciences Information of the Pan American Health Organization / World Health Organization (BIREME/PAHO/WHO) and also has the support of the National Council of Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq - www.cnpq.br).
