I am currently (since May 2006) employed as a Senior Programme Manager – Information and Documentation with the SADC Plant Genetic Resources Centre (SPGRC) responsible for planning, development, installation and co-ordination of the documentation system for the plant genetic resources of the SADC region and for collection of suitable literature and publicising the activities of the SPGRC network in order to ensure the availability of scientific and management information for conservation and utilisation of these resources in the SADC region.
After serving in the Civil Service as a Senior Research Officer (Information Services) with the Information and Documentation Unit of the Division of Research & Development, Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security headquarters; I was redeployed in March 2005 to become the Senior Information and Communications Specialist for the IFAD-World Bank funded Agricultural Services Support Programme (ASSP), based in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania until May 2006.
I hold a Masters degree in Library & Information Sciences, graduated from the University of Alberta, Canada in 2000. I also have an MSc in Agriculture, graduated in Moldova (former Soviet Union) in 1989. Besides the several professional courses attended in processing and management of information, I also have a Diploma in Agricultural Mechanization, and a Certificate in General Agriculture and Veterinary Sciences.
I have worked for the Tanzanian Ministry of Agriculture since 1978 in different capacities, in the fields of Extension, Mechanisation, Training, and latest as a Senior Research Officer (Information & Documentation Services). I started working as an Information Officer since early 1993, and have had an opportunity to attend several courses in information management including capture, processing, storage, retrieval and dissemination.
