The Committee on Sustainability Assessment (COSA) is an international organization accelerating sustainability. From farmers to global brands, COSA facilitates the pragmatic understanding of sustainability and how to measurably improve it. We drive global learning with SMART metrics that are comprehensive, science-based and yet simple to use. We make them available freely as a public good so that users get clarity on sustainability issues that matter most.

How We Contribute to Real Impact:
COSA Indicators and Tools were developed with hundreds of institutions and experts worldwide.Their global consistency allows unprecedented levels of learning and accountability in agri-food systems. Insights from COSA data affect millions of farming households that grow foods, coffee, cacao, cotton, and other crops.

What we do:
Our integrated solutions help you to better measure and manage sustainability in agri-food systems. We can accelerate results and scale-up change with the right tools to drive smarter decision-making and greater accountability.

The problem we are trying to solve:
The field lacks practical ways to measure sustainability and to learn quickly from diverse efforts. Sound metrics that are globally accepted are imperative if we are to engage the many diverse stakeholders necessary to create systemic change. Just as tools have been standardized to facilitate learning and communication about so many things from weather reports to accounting practices, so too do we need standardized tools to measure and communicate credible sustainability data. COSA and its hundreds of partners and expert advisers have developed these tools that fully align with international and normative references. We use them to understand key issues:
• How do we quickly identify levers of change for greater impact?
• How can communities be more resilient in the face of climate change?
• What are the returns on investment (ROI) of sustainability initiatives?
• What approaches work or do not work, and why?
