Federal Institute of Industrial Research, Oshodi (FIIRO), Lagos, Nigeria (www.fiiro.gov.ng ) is an industrial research institute established in 1956 with expertise in the area of agro-proccessing, food and nutrition, biotechnology, waste utilization, prototype equipment design and development, chemical and fiber technology, environmental technology, pulp and paper technology, packaging development, techno-marketing, entrepreneurship development and technology promotion.

FIIRO have built a strong synergies and transnational partnerships with public and private bodies, research institutes, professional chambers, media and universities

We are experienced in international projects such as Cassava: Adding value for Africa (C:AVA) sponsored by Bill and Melinda Gates foundation through NRI. FP7 project titled GRATITUDE under KBBE (currently running), BIOMASSWEB sponsored by Germany Government and a number of projects from WAITRO.

Specifically; we are versatile in the area of

• Upgrading of indigenous technology.

• Development of novel foods products and preservation.

• Development of biotechnological processes for the production of food and ingredients.

• Optimization of fermentation processes and development of starter cultures.

• Promotion and dissemination of developed technologies through demonstration and
manuals/hand bills.

• Deep experience in innovation development, transfer and dissemination of knowledge

• Development of prototype equipment with the aim of setting up pilot plant for developed technology.
