The Commission on Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture of FAO, at its Fourteenth Regular Session, presented the "Draft Guide for National Seed Policy Formulation". The Guide is intended for use by policymakers, national seed agencies, and public and private sector organizations, including national seed associations and farmers' organizations. The Guide explains the difference between seed policy and seed laws and underlines that seed policies shall address the roles of the formal and informal seed sectors and how they could become mutually supportive and coordinate their efforts.
GFAR, within the support provided to countries to ensure and improve the implementation of Farmers' Rights at national level, particularly to develop and promote policies implementing Farmers' Rights, has used as an input the Guide for National Seed Policy Formulation. See GFAR support in recognizing Farmers' Rights in seed policies in Malawi and Guatemala.
