The International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) has released a web update featuring stories making a call for increased investment in smallholder agriculture in order to remove the root causes that lead to conflict and migration, and to better enable achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals of ending poverty and hunger. The update also features a tribute to small farmers, news on the recent IFAD Governing Council, and other news, events and opportunities.
IFAD is a specialized agency of the United Nations dedicated to eradicating poverty and hunger in rural areas of developing countries. GFAR was established in 1996 with the support of IFAD and others, to mobilize the global scientific community, and all those with a stake in agriculture and rural development, to work together to transform agri-food research and innovation systems through dialogue, and by building partnerships for action on critical issues. IFAD and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO) are represented in the GFAR Steering Committee as founding partners of GFAR and as facilitating agencies. IFAD supports staff in the GFAR Secretariat and has been a generous investor in GFAR-related projects and events.
