Hired for Contractual Work (APW) with SEARO-World Health Organization from December 2012 to June 2013 and from November 2013 to December 2013 for promotion of the IMSEAR database (database of biomedical publications from SEARO Countries).

Sr. Technical Director at National Informatics Centre (NIC), New Delhi since 2004 to November 2012 (taken retirement under Voluntary Retirement Scheme); joined NIC in May 1989 as Sr. Systems Analyst and subsequently promoted to Principal Systems Analyst and Joint Director.
KEY ACHIEVEMENTS/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Held a senior position in the organization (National Informatics Centre, New Delhi, India) with over 20 years experience in health information services. Headed the 17th International MEDLARS Centre from 1999 to 2009; instrumental in development of three very important databases (accessible to users inside and outside India), namely:
IndMED – bibliographic database of peer reviewed Indian biomedical journals (http://indmed.nic.in/)
medIND – the full text version of over 40 IndMED journals (http://medind.nic.in).
OpenMED – open access archive of biomedical publications (http://openmed.nic.in/)
The OpenMED archive was nominated twice for the Stockholm Challenge Award in the Health Category in 2006 and 2008. Responsibilities included, content development for the databases, organizing training programs in for medical professionals, organizing user awareness programs, providing information services to the medical community and managing the funds of the Centre (which was partly funded by Indian Council of Medical Research).
Was project in-charge of a cancer network project, OncoNET India, funded by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (India); this envisages covering major regional cancer centers in India with associated peripheral cancer centers. I prepared the Detailed Project Report which included the budgeting and services. The project aims at providing early cancer detection/screening and treatment for cancer patients. Prepared a Project proposal on Integrated Disease Surveillance Project of the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), New Delhi entitled “Extension of call centre support and addition of GIS and other features in the IDSP Project”.
In addition, also organized telemedicine sessions and distance education programs for doctors in the North East using videoconferencing facility.
