Co-organized by the Government of Hainan, CAAS, FAO and CGIAR, the 5th Global Forum of Leaders of Agricultural S&T (GLAST-2016) was held in Lingshui Li Autonomous Region of Hainan. Mr. Qu Dongyu, Vice Minister of Agriculture, Ms. He Xiqing, Vice Governor of Hainan, Mr. Tang Huajun, President of CAAS, Ms. Kundhavi Kadiresan, Assistant Director General of FAO, together with Mr. Shenggen Fan, Director General of IFPRI, presented the opening ceremony of meeting. Mr. Wu Kongming, Vice President of CAAS, chaired the opening ceremony.

Star status can bring the opportunity for celebrities to wear many hats and draw attention to environmental and health issues. Whether they are producing or performing music for fair trade campaigns, designing ethically sourced products, or growing food for the hungry, these 10 stars are using their fame and dollars to advocate for a more sustainable food future for all.

This year has had its fair share of food moments. Food policies and programs have been developed to address nutrition and food security, efforts have been made to standardize and quantify food waste, and a growing group of young food leaders around the world have continually contributed to growing involvement and effort in improving the global food system. Here are 16 noteworthy food moments of 2016:

The first ever International Congress on Agrobiodiversity (IAC 2016) took place in Delhi, India, from the 6th to the 9th of November, 2016. The objective of the Congress was to provide a platform to all the stakeholders engaged in genetic resource conservation and management to deliberate on thematic issues of global importance, with major emphasis on rational and effective use of agrobiodiversity for food, nutrition and environmental security.
