On March 17, 2023, the heads of the six GFAR Regional Fora (AARINENA, APAARI, CACAARI, EFARD, FARA, and FORAGRO) signed a Declaration to establish a Global NARS Consortium (GNC) and entrusted it to GFAR.

The Regional Fora represent diverse stakeholders involved in agrifood systems transformation and agricultural research, specifically the National Agricultural Research Systems (NARS) in their regions.

This press release highlights the Collective Action on Forgotten Foods and Crops, which is emphasising the role of small and marginal farmers, including women, in India to restore nutritious crops and forgotten foods. The initiative, supported by international and national partners, recognises that these farmers are key actors and partners in research, knowledge creation and innovation, rather than passive beneficiaries.

AHMEDABAD, 3 May 2023: Rather than mere recipients and beneficiaries of agricultural innovation and knowledge “transferred” by scientists, small and marginal Indian farmers, including women, must be perceived and recognized as key actors and partners in research and knowledge creation. Women especially are the backbone of marginal farmer households in India.
