GFAR is happy that the reviewers have found that GFAR has made a remarkable move in the right direction and it is largely recognized that the vision which led to the creation of GFAR, and which was confirmed by the 2000 review, is still valid today. GFAR shares the view of its stakeholders on the need for GFAR to increase emphasis on fostering dialogue and debate on ARD issues and on advocacy. This is already being addressed in the 2007-2009 GFAR Business Plan.

The AASW and FARA GA 2007 held in Johannesburg, South Africa in June 2007, offered civil society organizations (CSOs) in African agriculture namely; sub-regional farmers¿ organizations, the private sector agri-business, and NGOs to develop strategies and mechanisms for the promotion of their inclusiveness in African agricultural research and development systems.

Based on the recommendations of an APAARI organized Inter-regional Workshop on Advocacy and Collaboration for ICT/ICM in ARD in July 2006, in which representatives of all RFs, GFAR, FAO and other global agricultural information systems participated, APAARI published a collection of success stories and best practices of ICT and ICM in ARD as an advocacy tool.

Covering the period from 2007 to 2009 and fourth in the series, the current GFAR Business Plan (BP) is prepared through an inclusive participatory consultative process that culminated in a retreat held in Alexandria, Egypt from 30 March to 1 April 2007, with a balanced representation from the above mentioned GFAR stakeholders.
