In Agricultural Research for Development (ARD), initiatives have been undertaken by the various
stakeholders to launch information and communication systems. The Sub-Regional and Regional Fora
of the NARS (National Agricultural Systems) have launched Regional Agricultural Information
Systems (RAIS). To achieve consistency the building up of these information systems , two general
objectives can be formulated within this project:

(GFAR, Foro Global de Investigación Agropecuaria) y los actores de la sociedad civil:

Report from European Civil society organisations attending EFARD 2002

On 15-17 May 2002 the second conference of the European Forum on Agricultural Research for Development (EFARD) was held in Rome under the banner of ¿Strengthening the European Contribution to Agricultural Research for Development¿. The conference was organised by the EFARD Steering Committee, composed of persons from public-sector institutions of agricultural research, education and administration. There does not appear to have been any systematic effort to encourage involvement of non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and farmer organisations (FOs).

The CGIAR and Civil Society: forging collaborative partnerships with NGOs and Farmers organizations as a key strategy to advance sustainable agriculture in the developing world

The main objectives of the CGIAR agricultural research and development agenda are to reduce poverty and ensure an adequate nutrition and quality of life for rural society in the developing world.This mission involves meeting basic food needs of the rural poor but also expanding output to meet the food needs of a growing urban population, in a manner that is economically viable and which does not degrade the natural resource base.
