Le projet d¿entreprise 2001-2003 du GFAR fournit un cadre général et des directives pour l'ensemble des
activités, programmes et projets que les parties prenantes du GFAR décident d'entreprendre conjointement
dans le cadre du Forum mondial.
La principale fonction du Secrétariat du GFAR est de faciliter la mise en oeuvre du projet d¿entreprise en
favorisant le dialogue, l'échange d'informations, le renforcement des capacités et la constitution de
partenariats de recherche entre les parties prenantes.

El Plan de Negocios del GFAR 2001-2003 proporciona el marco general y las directrices para
todas las actividades, programas y proyectos que los actores del GFAR deciden llevar a cabo
conjuntamente bajo la dirección del GFAR.
La principal función del Secretariado del GFAR es facilitar la ejecución del Plan de Negocios del
GFAR, favoreciendo el diálogo, el intercambio de información, la creación de capacidades y las
asociaciones de investigación entre los diferentes actores.

The GFAR Business Plan 2001-2003 provides the general framework and guidelines for all activities, programmes and projects that the GFAR stakeholders decide to jointly undertake under the aegis of GFAR.
The GFAR Secretariat¿s main function is to facilitate the implementation of the GFAR Business Plan by favouring dialogue, exchange of information, capacity-building and research partnerships
between the different stakeholders.

1. Before embarking on the main Charter Review, the review team, RT, has decided that it
is necessary to tackle it as a two stage process. There are a number of preconditions, and
matters requiring feed back from the GFAR MT and SC, before the team can get into the
detail of redrafting parts of the charter, such as revisiting GFAR Mission Statement or

The first version of the GFAR Charter was approved by the GFAR Steering Committee (GFAR-SC) in October
1998. In May 2000, a GFAR External Review was carried out and among the outputs of this review was draft

The GFAR Charter defines the rules and regulations of the Global Forum on Agricultural
Research (GFAR). The first GFAR Charter was approved by the GFAR Steering Committee on
October 1998 and, on the basis of that Charter, the Global Forum has been able to operate well
during its first two years of existence. Having completed the initial phase of establishment of
GFAR, this revised version has been improved on the basis of the rich experience obtained
during the first two years of operation. This revised version also integrates the valuable
