I am Alice Van der Elstraeten from Belgium and I work as a Knowledge Management and Gender Associated Officer for FAO. Last year I worked in Niger and Burkina Faso and since this summer I am based at HQ in Rome. Prior to Niger I worked for 5 years in Central Africa (mainly DRC, Burundi, Rwanda) as the Coordinator of the Information and Communications Department of the Congolese Ministry of Agriculture; as the Great Lakes Coordinator for Search for Common Ground and as a Communications Specialist for IFDC (International Fertilizer Development Center).

Researcher in ICT4D, PhD student at the ICT4D Collective, Royal Holloway University of London. Main interests: rural agricultural development and the role of ICT, especially mobile devices in the context of agricultural extension

A native of Himalayas, my work and interest remained in these mighty and beautiful mountains. A seasoned
professional, worked on various environment and development issues over 16 years in India and Himalayan
mountains. Trained in various technical and management approaches in water resources, bio-diversity,
mountain farming, energy and climate change. At present work on an initiative, called 'Climate Himalaya'
and involved in developing the first phase of knowledge networking and partnership among interest groups.
