The University of Pará was established by Law No. 3,191, of July 2, 1957, signed into law by President Juscelino Kubitschek de Oliveira, after five years of legislative procedure. Brought together the seven federal, state and private colleges existing in Bethlehem: Medicine, Law, Pharmacy, Engineering, Dentistry, Philosophy, Sciences and Letters and Economics, Accounting and Actuarial.

Was created in 1988 and recognized in 1994 by the Federal Government of Brazil. UNIOESTE has 55 undergraduate courses and about 24 graduate programs
