Director of Futures Programmes, Smith School of Enterprise and the Environment. I have led a number of ambitious, international foresight programmes, focused variously on significant challenges of energy-, water-, food-security and sustainable health systems. to mention some of the topical foci. I have experience of conducting futures-orientated research and analysis in single client and multi-stakeholder settings.
Actionable foresight focused on sustainable development concerns in hyper-connected world, increasingly benefit from collaborative approaches that: combine intuition with rigorous analysis, to expose deeply held assumptions and normative biases. This in turn requires better relating (rather than conflating) multiple futures methods (e.g. visioning and scenarios and modelling).
I have been exploring the methodological challenges of deriving systemic understanding and delivering actionable insights on the so-called 'FEW Nexus'. This work benefits from a deeper and more shared understanding between the scenarios and complex systems communities.
The mission of our School is to identify more and better options for realizing the role of respeonsible enterprise in appreciating and addressing signifcant envrionmental challenges. currently we have programmes focussed on low carbon mobility, marine enterprise and ocean governance, biodiversity and enterprise and gas futures.
