Robyn Alders is an Associate Professor with the Faculty of Veterinary Science within the University of Sydney (http://sydney.edu.au/vetscience/about/staff/profiles/robyn.alders.php). For over 20 years, she has worked closely with smallholder farmers in Africa and Asia as a veterinarian, researcher and colleague. Robyn employs a One Health approach to food security, empowerment of women and infectious disease control in rural areas, especially the control of Newcastle disease in village chickens.
In addition to technical issues relating to livestock health and production, Robyn recognises the important role of socio-economic issues, including gender, in sustainable livestock development programs. She also has a practical understanding of the role of livestock in HIV/AIDS mitigation and wildlife conservation.
Robyn is a non-salaried Director of the International Rural Poultry Centre within the Kyeema Foundation (www.kyeemafoundation.org). Robyn's current research interests include food and nutrition security and One Health governance frameworks.
