21–23 October 2026 · TAGEM, Ankara, Türkiye
The Global NARS Consortium (GNC), together with the General Directorate of Agricultural Research and Policies (TAGEM) of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry of the Republic of Türkiye and the Association of Agricultural Research Institutions in the Near East and North Africa (AARINENA), will hold a training workshop on Results-Based Programmatic Agricultural Research Management (RBP-ARM).
Dr Botir Dosov, GNC Coordinator, will serve as Trainer and Facilitator, joined by Dr Didem Kökden, GNC Focal Point and GNC NENA Regional Coordinator, as Co-Trainer and Co-Facilitator.
Target Audience
Participants are researchers and research managers from the agricultural research institutes of Türkiye. The format combines short presentations with work in five or six groups on cases proposed by the participants themselves.
What Is RBP-ARM?
RBP-ARM is a methodology for managing agricultural research by its results, derived from the nature of agricultural research itself.
It gives one connected line from the problem that research should help to solve to the objectives, results, plan, budget and indicators, for any research work, from a single study to a portfolio. Every management decision then relies on information about intended and actual results.
The methodology rests on two fundamental studies prepared by a joint team of TAGEM and AARINENA: one on agricultural research, its organisation and management, the other on results-based management.
Why This Workshop Matters
First time in practice. The workshop is the first presentation and test of RBP-ARM with researchers and research managers.
Real cases, not exercises. Participants with related cases work in the same group, and each group applies the methodology to one of its members' cases, for example a transdisciplinary strategic programme or the sectoral research of an institute.
Participants shape the methodology. After each block, a short feedback round records what was clear, what was not and what was missing. Participants assess how clear, applicable and feasible RBP-ARM is, and their assessment will be used to refine it.
Joint work of TAGEM and AARINENA. The methodology and the workshop are the result of cooperation between the national research system of Türkiye, AARINENA and Global NARS Consortium (GNC).
What Participants Will Take Away
By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:
- Explain why the management of agricultural research needs to be consistently results-based, and what RBP-ARM adds to existing practice;
- Set up the working frame of a research undertaking and identify the problem to be addressed through research;
- Turn problems into objectives and results, choose a course of action, and outline the plan, the indicators and the logical framework;
- Describe how the work is then carried out, reviewed and completed;
- Assess the methodology on a real case and propose improvements.
