What do the people from the Boru community of Flores in Indonesia, from South Palawan in the Philippines and from the Kumaun and Garhwal region, Uttarakhand in the Central Himalaya in India have in common? They all have a desire to use foresight to shape their future.

With the support of the Asian Farmers Association and  the Global Forum on Agricultural Research, Don and Gaspar from API, an Indonesia farmer organization,  Nikka, Esther and Jonathan from PAKISAMA, a Philippines farmer organization and Sonali, Sudhir and Manoj from INHERE, a local development NGO in India met in from 2-7 February in Quezon City in the Philippines for a six-day capacity building in implementing participatory grassroots foresight. During their course they learned and practiced how to develop a grassroots foresight reflection engaging all local actors to build scenarios and identify related actions.

GFAR joined efforts with FAO in the H2020 project "Big Data Europe: Integrating Big Data, Software & Communities for Addressing Europe's Societal Challenges" (BDE).

The project is funded under the H2020 Work Programme Strategic Objective ICT 15 - 2014: Big data and Open Data Innovation and take-up and addresses the Target Outcome (b.3) Coordination & Support Actions: Data Aggregator.

Are you an agricultural data manager or developer? Or maybe you are interested in information services that can be built on agricultural data or you you want to have an overview of what type of agricultural data are available and where.
If so, we want to hear from you.

The Global Forum on Agricultural Research (GFAR), together with FAO and under the CIARD umbrella, has launched a survey to assess the level of awareness and usage of the CIARD RING among current and prospective users.
The CIARD RING is a global directory of information services and datasets for agriculture launched in 2010 and has now grown to more than 1000 registrations.
The directory allows agricultural data providers to publicize their services and datasets. Furthermore and more importantly, it enables providers of integrated services and app developers to automatically discover, access and re-use the data through APIs.
