The Global Forest Expert Panels (GFEP) initiative provides a mechanism for effectively linking the information requirements of governments and intergovernmental processes related to forests and trees with existing scientific expertise. On 6 May 2015 at the UN Forum on Forests in New York, USA, the report Forests, Trees and Landscapes for Food Security and Nutrition – A global Assessment Report, was launched. The report is the result of a collaboration of more than 60 leading scientists, coordinated by the International Union of Forest Research Organisations (IUFRO) on behalf of the Collaborative Partnership on Forests (CPF). The assessment report provides comprehensive scientific evidence on how forests, trees and landscapes can be – and must be - an integral part of the solution to the global problem of hunger and malnutrition.
