The Nutrition Division of FAO (ESN), in partnership with the Statistics Division (ESS) and the Food Safety and Quality Unit (AGDF) of FAO, the World Health Organization (WHO) and other international partners, is building a pilot Global Individual Food consumption data Tool (FAO/WHO GIFT) (http://www.fao.org/food/evaluationnutritionnelle/foodconsumptiondatabase/en/).
The ultimate goal is to collect, harmonize and disseminate dietary intake data available at national and sub-national level all over the world through an FAO hosted web-platform that will be publicly accessible free of charge. This platform, intended for use by both experts and the broader audience, aims to facilitate access to age and sex disaggregated data on individual food consumption. It will allow the construction of high quality food-based nutrition indicators to enable evidence-based policies aiming at improving diet quality and the promotion of healthy diets.
Under the guidance and supervision of the Nutrition Officer and the overall guidance of the Senior Nutrition Office and Group Leader of the Nutrition Assessment and Scientific Advice Group (ESNNA), Nutrition Division (ESN) of FAO, Rome, the consultant will support the development of the pilot FAO/WHO GIFT. This activity will be performed through collaboration within FAO (at headquarters, regional offices and national offices) and with other institutions at regional and country level, including through missions.
