As the world’s population grows, global demand for food is predicted to nearly double. The number of people at risk of hunger in the developing world is estimated to grow to more than a billion people by 2050. New data-driven solutions in agriculture and nutrition are increasingly being seen as a way to tackle this challenge.

The Oxford Farming Conference (OFC) is looking to award £10,000 in prize money to a recent invention, technology or scientific advance that has really boosted on-farm performance or profitability. Nominations are being sought from farmers and the wider industry for the most deserving projects and people to fit these criteria. The winning nominator will win a fully-paid place at the 2017 Oxford Farming Conference, which runs from 3-5 January 2017.

The Science and Innovation Award is partnered by the Royal Agricultural Society of England (RASE) sponsored by Adama. 

The All-Party Parliamentary Group on Agriculture & Food for Development is currently inviting written submissions from organisations and individuals on the topic of rural infrastructure. The deadline for submissions is 15 October 2016.

In Brazil, one in two adults and one in three children are overweight or obese. With these numbers expected to increase in the coming years, Brazil’s Ministry of Health hopes to stem the rise with the Dietary Guidelines for the Brazilian Population, released last year. These guidelines matter since they act as the principle reference for communities, health professionals, and government for promoting proper eating.
