A week of discussions have kicked off at the FAO Regional Conference for Europe, addressing the issues of malnutrition and obesity in the region. Having made major strides in reducing the prevalence of hunger, many countries in Europe and Central Asia are now looking to improve the quality of people's diets and transform their food systems in order to adapt to climate change, optimize the use of natural resources, and cut waste.
This annual award, which began in 2007, is organized and presented by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) of Japan. Its purpose is to increase motivation among young researchers contributing to research and development in agriculture, forestry, fisheries, and related industries in developing countries, which is promoted by Japan for the benefit of those countries. Latin America's Regional Fund for Agricultural Technology -- Fondo Regional de Tecnología Agropecuaria (FONTAGRO) -- calls for research proposals on production chains to improve market access for family agriculture in Latin America. Consortium proposals should include agricultural research institutes, universities, NGOs, agricultural producers associations, and private companies in at least two FONTAGRO member countries. Grants are up to US$400 thousand for projects of up to 42 months. The closing date for preliminary applications (Spanish, English) is 28 June 2016.
The European Neighbourhood Programme for Agriculture and Rural Development in Georgia (ENPARD - Georgia) aims to promote agriculture and rural development policies and reforms in Georgia. The strategy includes more competitive and climate-resilient agricultural practices; promotion of viable off-farm economic activities; and sustainable management and protection of environmental resources.
