On the occasion of the International Earth Day 2016, the CGIAR Research Program on Dryland Systems wishes to raise awareness of the importance of trees in drylands. Globally, about 1.6 billion people, including more than 2,000 indigenous cultures- depend on trees and forests for food, would fuel, livestock feed, shelter and income.
