The Al-Sumait Prize worth $1,000,000 (One million US dollars) has been introduced based on an initiative of His Highness the Amir of the State of Kuwait to honor, the late, Dr Abdul Rahman Al-Sumait . The prize is to recognize, reward and honor individuals or institutions who have helped to advance economic and social development, human resources development and infrastructure on the African continent.

Food Security has been selected for the Prize in 2016.

The African Innovation Foundation (AIF) has announced the top 10 nominees for its landmark programme, the Innovation Prize for Africa (IPA). Now celebrating its 5th year under the theme “Made in Africa”, IPA is the premier innovation initiative in the African continent, offering a grand share prize of US$150000 and incentives to spur growth and prosperity in Africa through home-grown solutions.
