What is the most effective way to end hunger sustainably? And what would it cost? These two questions are central to a new initiative: Ceres2030 aims at giving answers to the fundamental endeavour to evaluate the benefits, costs and trade-offs of agricultural interventions to ensure effective action. The project is a joint initiative by International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD), Cornell University and International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI).

YPARD is delighted to welcome the incoming YPARD director Yemi Adeyeye . Yemi is a PhD Candidate at the University of British Columbia, Canada. He holds a double MSc degree (Erasmus Mundus MSc program): MSc in Agricultural Development (forests and livelihoods) from the University of Copenhagen, Denmark and MSc Environmental Forestry from Bangor University, Wales.

There's still time to deliver on the global pledge to eradicate hunger but "urgent measures" are needed to reverse the recent increase in the number of hungry people, speakers at the Committee on World Food Security (CFS) said today.

 "There is no time to lose," FAO Director-General José Graziano da Silva told the opening assembly of the week-long CFS meeting. Failure to eradicate hunger will undermine all the Sustainable Development Goals, meaning "poverty will not be eradicated, natural resources will continue to degrade, and forced migration will continue to rise," he added.

During the official ceremony on October 4, Paul Van Mele and Jonas Wanvoeke received the award on behalf of Access Agriculture from Alexander De Croo, Deputy Prime Minister and Belgian Minister of Development Cooperation and Digital Agenda.

GFAR Executive Secretary Mark Holderness was invited and sponsored to present a paper on ‘Collective Action, the future for Agricultural Research and Innovation’ to the 2^nd International Conference on Agricultural Research, held on 24-29 September in Beijing, China. The Conference was organized by Partner in GFAR, the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS). The mission also included participation in the working group for the G20 MACS Agricultural Technology System and the development of the China-Africa Technology Transfer Consortium.
