Faced with the salient development issues in developing countries, agricultural research for development is increasingly being called upon to demonstrate its usefulness and its impacts, particularly among donors and policy makers. To meet this legitimate requirement, CIRAD has developed an approach called ImpresS (Impact of Research in the South) with the goal of documenting the contribution of research to changes within society and the mechanisms at work along the impact pathway.
The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), which is turning 50 this year, has vowed to redouble its efforts to transform Africa’s agriculture in the Eastern Africa region.
This was expressed by IITA Director for Eastern Africa Dr Victor Manyong at a ceremony organized at the Institute’s Eastern Africa hub offices in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, recently to mark its 50th anniversary.
At the start of their term, we took the opportunity to ask Chair Bongiwe N. Njobe and Vice-Chair Raffaele Maiorano their thoughts about GFAR’s work and their vision for the future of our Global Forum.
