The GODAN Action network will publish a new e-learning course on ‘Open Data and Research Data Management in Agriculture and Nutrition’, available between the 13th November and 8th December 2017.
The course is open to infomediaries, policy makers, administrators, project managers, researchers and scientists working in the areas of agriculture and nutrition.
Sustainability efforts often fail due to a piecemeal approach that does not take into account the key factors affecting results, because they are not immediately visible in a focused or localized assessment context. We cannot, therefore, observe only the economic landscape or the social landscape or the environmental landscape. For example, the solution to managing deforestation may come less from environmental perspectives than from economic (e.g. low farm productivity) or social factors (e.g. inadequate policies or governance).
COSA is expanding its indicator database to include more topics and to facilitate greater access by researchers, development organizations and others who conduct evaluation or management of sustainability projects. The new content for our Performance Monitoring indicators (available on our website) is displayed as technical sheets that greatly expand the understanding of the specific metrology, the scientific basis or background for an indicator, how to apply it and even sample questions for a survey.
The resilience of a household or community is a key factor in determining and improving its levels of poverty and inequality. With the support of the Ford Foundation, COSA and its partners (Sustainable Food Lab, Root Capital, Lutheran World Relief, CIAT) developed accessible tools to facilitate how we can diagnose how households fare in difficult circumstances, from conflict to climate change. With more realistic knowledge, we can more readily and more accurately help to target interventions and improve outcomes.
COSA’s new online self-assessment survey for producer organizations is a quick and easy-to-use tool that diagnoses the effectiveness and viability of a producer organization or enterprise using a state-of-the-art platform and metrics.
