The 3rd Global Conference on Agricultural Research for Development (GCARD3) formally opened on Tuesday evening, 5 April 2016, at the Birchwood Hotel and O.R. Tambo Conference Centre in Boksburg, South Africa. Addressing the overall theme of ‘No One Left Behind; Agri–food Innovation and Research for a Sustainable World,’ the Conference is part of a two-year consultative process to build collective actions to transform and strengthen agricultural research and innovation systems in line with the vision developed through GCARD1 and expressed as joint initiatives among GCARD2 stakeholders.

servi à la préparation de l’atelier de prospective « Les avenirs de Ségou en 2035 » qui s’est
tenu à Bamako du 8 au 12 juin 2015 et qui a donné lieu à la production d’un rapport,
également disponible. Une deuxième version, très largement enrichie, datée de janvier 2016,
a été éditée en cent exemplaires, et diffusée lors des ateliers de restitution de Ségou et

To mark the occasion of the International Women’s Day 2016, the CGIAR Research Program on Dryland Systems is stepping it for women to raise awareness about their roles and recognize their invaluable contribution to agriculture and other socio-economic, cultural and political aspects of life in the world’s most vulnerable communities in rural drylands.

Right now, African leaders are making decisions that will determine the structure of the continent’s food system for a generation or more. Among these decisions are a host of investments in digital technology and policies about how it will be used to empower smallholder farmers and advance rural development. If these investments and policies are sufficiently ambitious, they can help create a food system that fights poverty and promotes economic growth, increases food security, encourages gender equality, and improves health and nutrition for hundreds of millions of Africans.
