Shenggen Fan is the Director General of the International Food Policy Research Institute. After joining IFPRI as a Research Fellow in 1995, he led IFPRI’s program on public investment and later became director of IFPRI’s Development Strategy and Governance Division. Dr. Fan is a leading researcher on pro-poor development strategies in developing countries. He has published widely in the areas of agricultural R&D policy, public investment, transition economies and agricultural development strategies. Dr. Fan received his Ph.D.

Working as a Regional Sweetpotato Specialist for International Potato Center in South West and Central Asia region based in India,currently involved in conducting sweetpotato research through breeding and agronomy. Malnutrition is the serious health problem in South Asia. Contributing to better nutrition, income and health through beta-carotene rich Orange-fleshed sweetpotato helps change the lives of the poor in South Asia and also to meet one of the current MDG.

Prof Aldo Stroebel is Director International Academic Projects in the Office of the Vice-Chancellor and Senior Research Fellow at the Centre for Sustainable Agriculture, Rural Development and Extension, University of the Free State (UFS). He is a well-known agriculture- and rural development specialist, focusing on smallholder farming systems in Africa, acknowledged by his recent election as one of 20 Founding Members of the South African Young Academy of Science (SAYAS), under auspices of the Academy of Science of South Africa (ASSAf).

I work at International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) as a Research Associate and I have an MSc. In genetics and plant breeding.

I am involved in technology development whereby I help in developing drought tolerant varieties for eastern and southern Africa. I am also involved in training farmers and collaborators in agronomic practices, pest and disease management. I also do research on climate change adaptation options in agriculture.
