As we approach the close of 2024, we are pleased to share the key developments and achievements that have shaped GFAiR this year. Despite several challenges we have made significant strides in governance, partnerships, and substantive work, setting the stage for productive years to come.
26-27 November 2024. Abu Dhabi. The Global Food Security Summit (GFSS) is one of the largest scientific gatherings in the MENA region. It explored innovative, sustainable, and profitable approaches, including the use of Artificial Intelligence in agriculture.
GFAiR and Partners are pleased to announce the appointment of a new Chair and Vice Chair as a result of a competitive process.
Dr. Ravi Khetarpal was re-elected in November 2024 as GFAiR Chair and you may find his short presentation here.
Dr. Romano De Vivo was elected as GFAiR Vice Chair in November 2024 when the terms of office of Dr. Ross Mc Leod expired.
29 October 2024, 3rd NARES-CGIAR Genetic Innovation Leadership Meeting
The 3rd CGIAR Genetic Innovations – NARES leadership meeting builds on previous meetings held in 2022 and 2023 in Nairobi and Marrakesh respectively. Within Genetic Innovation and beyond, CGIAR is undergoing a transition to have greater impact in collaboration with national partners.
Rome, Italy — The Global Forum on Agricultural Research and Innovation (GFAiR) and the University of California, Agriculture and Natural Resources (UCANR) have officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) today, marking a significant milestone in global agricultural research and innovation. The signing ceremony took place in Rome, with leaders from both organizations coming together to formalize their commitment to collaborative efforts that aim to transform agrifood systems worldwide.
Samarkand, Uzbekistan—A major milestone in international agricultural cooperation was reached as the Global Forum for Agricultural Research and Innovation (GFAiR) signed a series of Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with key Regional Platforms and institutions. The MoUs were signed during the Global NARS Consortium (GNC) workshop, held on 22 October 2024, in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, marking a pivotal moment in GFAiR’s commitment to advancing agricultural innovation and regional collaboration on a global scale.
On 15 October 2024, GFAiR Secretariat held the regular bi-annual Progress and Prospects meeting from 1:00 to 2.30 PM, CEST at the Bioversity International and CIAT Headquarters in Rome, Italy. This meeting was conducted in hybrid form with the presence of the Director General of Bioversity International and CIAT, a GFAiR Steering Committee Member as well as the distinguished guests from the University of California.
