As a follow up to the e-conference on "Innovation systems for food security and nutrition: understanding the capacities needed", which happened from 18 April to 13 May, the Secretariat of the Tropical Agriculture Platform is organizing a half-day symposium to discuss the e-conference findings, and also discuss capacity development for improving human nutrition and health. The event will be attended by FAO permanent representatives from different countries.

IFPRI has released its 2016 Global Nutrition Report, which offers the startling findings that malnutrition has become a worldwide epidemic, affecting one-third of the global population. Coupled with the driver of increasing obesity, diet-related conditions such as stunting, anaemia, heart disease and diabetes are becoming a worldwide emergency.

The Global Alliance for Climate Smart Agriculture will be holding its Annual Forum from 14 to 16 June, on the theme Climate-Smart Agriculture in Action.

GACSA’s ambitious future is based upon supporting and inspiring action. Farmers, fishers, foresters, and ranchers are at the center of this action, and therefore GACSA is devoting its Annual Forum to showcasing climate-smart agriculture in action.

The Johns Hopkins Center for a Livable Future (CLF) at the Bloomberg School of Public Health recently released a report examining the benefits and limitations of urban agriculture. Called “Vacant Lots to Vibrant Plots,” the review summarizes the sociocultural, health, environmental, and economic development aspects of urban and peri-urban agriculture. 

Held at the headquarters of the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) in Nairobi, from 23 to 27 May, United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA-2) represented the global ideal platform to tackle some of the most critical issues facing our planet, from the air pollution that kills millions of people every year to an illegal trade in wildlife that is pushing species to the brink of extinction.
