A collaborative video project aimed at raising farmers’ awareness of small-scale agricultural machinery, water, time, and labor saving crop management practices in South Asia has won the bronze prize in the Event and Visual Communication Association (EVCOM) 2016 Award for Communication Effectiveness at an event in London on April 28.

As part of the 7th FARA Science Week, the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) is facilitating the Thematic Session on “Sustainable Productivity Growth”. This session is scheduled for Tuesday 14 June 2016 (http://faraafrica.org/aasw7/the-7th-aasw/program/). This Concept Note introduces the session, and also invites papers for oral presentation.

GFAR themes 2013

The Grow Africa Smallholder Working Group has published four new briefing papers summarising best practice in business models for integrating smallholders more effectively into agricultural value chains. 

Public-Private Sector Partnerships looks at making public-private partnerships work in smallholder inclusive agricultural value chains.

The Al-Sumait Prize worth $1,000,000 (One million US dollars) has been introduced based on an initiative of His Highness the Amir of the State of Kuwait to honor, the late, Dr Abdul Rahman Al-Sumait . The prize is to recognize, reward and honor individuals or institutions who have helped to advance economic and social development, human resources development and infrastructure on the African continent.

Food Security has been selected for the Prize in 2016.

The African Innovation Foundation (AIF) has announced the top 10 nominees for its landmark programme, the Innovation Prize for Africa (IPA). Now celebrating its 5th year under the theme “Made in Africa”, IPA is the premier innovation initiative in the African continent, offering a grand share prize of US$150000 and incentives to spur growth and prosperity in Africa through home-grown solutions.
